A slightly crazy 25 year old with a great husband and two wonderful kids. The only reason one would want to read my inner thoughts is complete boredom or unconditional love.

What happened to my chubby-cheeked baby?

Here is a problem that has been bugging me the past few weeks...Lily is 5 years old. She is still very much a baby to me. She's not even in kindergarten yet! Yet, she wants to

1) wear makeup
2) play with Bratz dolls (she thinks they're "awesome" and "beautiful")
3) look "popluyer" (she can't even say the word popular and she wants to be it! she doesn't even know the meaning of the word!)

I know the source of the bad path Lily is taking...

A mini-bad influencer who goes by the name of Kylie Beth.

She goes to daycare with Lily...she and Lily appear to be "best friends". They are always excited to see each other in the morning...but the kid is making my kid want to be a pint-sized teeny-bopper! (Is that still a word?)

What can I do? Lily is constantly asking me if she can wear makeup. "No", I say, "only for play inside the house...not when we go places"....and she of course says "Why???? The two Kylies wear it!" (there are 2 Kylie's at her daycare) and I say, "You are too young to wear make-up/You don't need make-up/You are beautiful without makeup/It is only for older girls/I am your mother, not Kylie's mother, etc, etc."

We let her wear play make-up...I let her put on my lip gloss...but I am NOT going to let her make herself up when she is 5 YEARS OLD! And she seems to think it is preposterous! I saw a little girl in the mall last weekend, probably around 8 years old, and she was caked in make-up...it was done proportionately or whatever, but she had so much on! And I thought, why?? Anyway...it sickens me that Lily, at such a young age, is already feeling the pressure to do and look exactly like her friends...I've got to do something about it! I'll fight to the death!

Oh Andrea! I've seen those Dr. Phil shows where those women dress their babies up like hookers and gob them up with make-up for those beauty pagents...it makes me sick!! I think you're doing the absolute right thing. You know I don't like much make-up to begin with, and hardly ever wear it (although I probably should! LOL)

Keep saying no. It's amazing that people try to let their kids grow up so fast. It happens fast enough as it is.

I think you're doing the right thing by telling her no too. I mean, it doesn't hurt to play with it at home, but wearing it- REALLY wearing it - that's a different story. I dread those days that are coming! :) Why would those moms let their daughters wear make-up at 4-5 years old? That doesn't make sense!

That's what I tell Lily...why do you need that when you are already beautiful?
Jessie thinks we tell her she's beautiful and cute too much and that's part of the problem...she sashays and prisses in front of the mirror alot (rolls eyes)...but I can't help but tell her she's beautiful! Should I stop doing that so much, maybe?

I don't know, I think it's more harmful when they DON'T get told that they're beautiful. Maybe you should let her know she's beautiful outside AND inside, but that the inside part is more important...but maybe 5 year olds can't understand about inside beauty...! I don't know, I'm not a mother, I don't know why I'm even commenting on this...LOL

Good advice though! Just because you aren't a mom yet doesn't mean you don't give good advice!

I can't believe those parents let their kids wear makeup either! That's crazy! Do they wear foundation and everything too?? Wow, it's enough trouble for me to get my makeup on in the morning. I can't imagine having to get Noelle's on too! Noelle definitely won't wear makeup until she can apply it herself the RIGHT way. And that will be a while ha ha. When kids start wearing makeup they always put it on wrong. She always wants to wear it though. I usually just tell her no, but sometimes we will play with it and I'll put eyeshadow or lipstick on her. The lipstick is usually enough to satisfy her. She loves it. Sounds like Kylie Beth is a troublemaker LOL...

I can't believe she's even heard the word popular enough to know what it means! ACK!

This morning Lily was telling me about a fiasco involving Brooke's (a girl from daycare)Mommy's lipstick. Apparantly the OTHER Kylie Beth went home with "Brooke's mommy's lipstick" then the next day came to daycare with a "bag full of makeup" and "guess what was in it??? Brooke's mommy's lipstick!!" haha Anyway, I guess they just give the makeup to their kids and let them go wild with it...which is fine...for PLAYTIME. Sheesh.

Yes...there are two little girls named Kylie Beth. Apparantly its a VERY popular name. The lady that cut my hair a couple of weeks ago has a daughter named Kylie Brooke! I've never heard of so many Kylies!
